"Separately they are three of the best improvising musicians Melbourne has to offer. Together they're a force to be reckoned with." - Bob Baker Fish, Cyclic Defrost, Australia.

"Pateras/Baxter/Brown is, absolutely, one of the best radical improvisation ensembles currently in circulation and I would not hesitate in citing them to the flank of historical formations of the Braxton, Jenkins, Smith & McCall quartet, the Bailey, Guy & Rutherford trio or the New Group Consonanza" - Sands Zine, Italy.

Formed in 2002 Pateras/Baxter/Brown have performed countless concerts throughout Australia, New Zealand and Europe, developing a worldwide reputation for their uncompromising, intensely focused and remarkably fluid live shows. Using the unique combinations of prepared piano, prepared guitar and percussion, Pateras/Baxter/Brown allude to numerous traditions of percussive-based contemporary and traditional music, including contemporary classical chamber music, rarefied improvisation and non-western percussive traditions such as gamelan.

Occasionally Pateras/Baxter/Brown invite a fourth member to perform as a soloist. To date these have included Tony Buck, Jeff Henderson, Will Guthrie, Xavier Charles, Matthieu Wechowski, Scott Tinkler, Kim Myhr, Robin Fox and Mary Oliver.

Pateras/Baxter/Brown have appeared at numerous festivals including: Musique Action (Nancy, 2007), Micro-Action (Marseille, 2007), Alternativa (Prague, 2006) Solos (Lille, 2006), NewImprov Fest (Rotterdam, 2006), the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz (2005), the ZDB 10th Anniversary Party (Lisbon, 2004), the NOWnow (Sydney, 2004/06) and Impermanent Audio (Melbourne 2003)
